LOCAL HISTORY

Homes

Ripon has beautiful houses of all ages. Many homes are from the later Victorian period which is when Ripon experienced its largest growth.

There are two neighborhoods of homes on the State and National Registry of Historic Places. The Southwest Historic District, established in 2004, is roughly bounded by Thorne, Lincoln, Howard and Metomen Streets. The Tygert Street Historic District was established in 2011 and is generally bounded by Scott Street and East Lane.

Several homes hold their own individual place on the State and National Registry of Historic Places. The 1850 Woodruff Family Octagon House at 610 Liberty Street was added onto the State and National Registry of Historic Places in 1974. This home is found in the original Village of Ceresco. The Pedrick-Lawson House at 515 Ransom Street, and now owned by the Ripon Historical Society, was added onto the State and National Registry of Historic Places in 1976. The home of acting Territorial Governor John Scott Horner is found at 336 Scott Street and was listed on the State and National Registry of Historic Places in 1984.

The Society archives information on the many historic homes of Ripon. The Society appreciates donations of the research or photos people have done on their historic Ripon home.
